Hills Prep, a world of discovery

We are proud to offer our Prep students the Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework in their first year of learning. Play is at the forefront of our pedagogical approach as it is the main driver of inquiry at this Foundation Stage. Elements of play are incorporated within day-to-day learning experiences, both in the classroom and outdoors. This practice involves choice, the promotion of student agency and provides opportunities for our early learners to inquire into concepts and areas of interest about the world around them. Our PYP Units of Inquiry embed specialist lessons, such as Chinese Language, Music, Visual Art and Physical Education to provide a rich tapestry of learning experiences for our students’ minds to grow.

Healthy and active minds

We are proud to offer the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) to all Prep students. The Perceptual Motor Program is used as a strategy to assist the development of children's gross motor skills and therefore assist with the development of fine motor skills, essential in the learning of reading and writing. It aids concentration and reasoning and gives a sound basis for future formal learning. PMP further enhances brain development by stimulating the five senses through movement. The 7 areas of the Perceptual Motor Program are Gross Motor Skills, Fine Motor Skills Crossing the midline of the body (laterality), Balance, Body and Space Awareness, Visual and Spatial Skills, Rhythm Sequence, and Memory and Listening.

Please feel free to contact the College administration to see for yourself just how connected our students are within their learning community. Hills College really is a place to belong.
