A former member of the Hills College Educational Support Team, Shelley is passionate about encouraging students to overcome barriers to learning.
A mother of two grown sons, both of whom graduated from Hills College, Shelley is extensively experienced in addressing the range of emotional and educational needs of your child. She is mindful of the responsibilities that guardianship of your child entails and is available to you and your child to ensure that the boarding experience is a positive one.
As a member of the Hills College boarding community, Shelley wants your child to feel safe, valued, and to achieve their personal best. She is aware of the changes that occur in adolescents and will support your child’s progression through the boarding house and College.
Observing the growth in your child, celebrating their successes and life events, is something that Shelley finds particularly rewarding.
DAVID WHITEHEAD - ASSISTANT DORMITORY SUPERVISOR
David committed to a career in the electric power sector. He completed assignments on thermal, geothermal, and gas turbine power stations, moving into the power engineering consulting sector as his career developed. He has completed assignments in project management, quality assurance, work winning, and marketing. David also contributed to a former employer’s sustainability initiative. He applied his industry knowledge to promoting a NZ based IT utility billing solution, interacting with companies in the Pacific Islands, Canada, USA, South America, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
During his career he has lived and worked in the UK, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Australia. As a business development executive, he travelled throughout Southeast Asia, China, Canada, North and South America, Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. He has worked with a range of engineering professionals including engineers, architects, scientists, technicians, and tradespeople and will share his knowledge with those students who have an interest in these fields.
A father of two grown sons and grandfather to three children, David is very aware of the benefits of a caring family environment, and the advantage this offers children during their school years and in later life. He is mindful of the guardianship role that you have entrusted him with and will strive to make your child feel welcome and valued.
Isla Perrett - DORMITORY SUPERVISOR

A teacher who specialises in teaching English to non-native speakers, Isla has been working at Hills Language College since 2014. She has over 30 years’ teaching experience, and holds an extensive knowledge and experience of working with adolescents and young adults. Her experience in education enables her to help students with their academics and she enjoys when students have that ‘A-ha’ moment.
Teaching and being a mother have always been her passion. Isla is a mother to eight children and one foster child. She believes communication with parents is key, and that our students deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. She aims to give them the skills to be able to tackle and overcome many of life’s difficulties.
Her personal philosophy is to help students develop into responsible, clear-thinking individuals who can navigate and find solutions to challenges. She assists students to grow into kind and understanding people who have consideration for everyone regardless of where they come from, so they can become valuable global citizens.
LLOYD PERRETT - ASSISTANT DORMITORY SUPERVISOR
New Zealand and Australian Police, Extensive experience in youth work both as a supervisor and in PD, successful sports coach, current First Aid and CPR certifications.
Husband to Isla, Lloyd works in close partnership with her to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our dormitory students. Lloyd’s experience with youth gives him a passion to help with problem solving and conflict resolution. His placid manner and patience when dealing with youth makes him a very approachable and kind father figure.
Lloyd believes in giving students the opportunity to become leaders, either in the dorms or in school. He gives young people confidence to lead, to be a valued member of our community and to be an excellent role model to others.
