2013 Hills Australian Junior Open

Please take the time to view some TV interviews regarding the Hills Australian Junior Open.

Jake Mcleod wins Queensland men’s amateur championship

Jake has won a battle of attrition to take home the 2012 Queensland Men’s Amateur Championship at Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club.

This event is Queensland’s number one premier amateur event and is a fantastic achievement. Jason Day also won the event and that now this makes it two students from Hills College that have won the Championship in the last nine years. This is a phenomenal achievement for Jake and the Academy.

Jake, this year has won, the South Australia Junior, The Northern Territory Open Amateur, the Northern Territory Junior and now the Qld Amateur. He represented Qld in the Australian Junior teams Championship earlier in the year and ran 4th at the Optimist Championship in Florida in July. It has been quite a year for him.

Enjoy Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship

Hills Golf Academy took 15 golf students to compete in the Enjoy Jakarta World Junior Golf Championships in early June. Eighteen countries were represented in this very prestigious event. The boys Division A (under 18 years) and Boys Division B (under 16 years) competed in a 72 hole tournament whilst the Girls and younger boys divisions competed for their championship over 54 holes.

Anthony Quayle, who was representing Australia in the team event, played beautifully and was in a position to win the tournament in the Boys Division A. He was in the last group on the final day. Anthony ran 3rd behind some very hot competition from Joshua Wirawan (Indonesia) who shot a tournament record 287 and runner up Danthai Boonma (288). Anthony competed very well over the 4 days and was a credit to the school with not only his golf performance but also his demeanour on and off the course.

Another Hills student, Danny Kang (Korea), also played very well in Boys A and finished 8th. Samaon Tsai (Taiwan), who joined Hills only this year, played solidly to run 7th in Boys B. Samson has shown some great improvement since joining us at Hills and we are looking forward to him going back to compete again in 2013.

Our girls played well with Celeste Lo coming in 8th , with Briony Webb 10th and Sophia Cragnolini 11th in the Girls A Division. They all competed well and once again did the Hills school proud by the way the played and conducted themselves during the tournament.

It was another great tournament and a fantastic success for the Hills school. We had all four Australian team members come from Hills with Anthony, Briony, Sophia and Benson Phillips waving the Australian flag. Also Celeste Lo represented Malaysia in the teams event. The Hills students made lots of new friends during the event and some have already put their hand up to play in the 2013 event.
